Jim Storrie replaced Alan Peacock after just17 minutes and was United's goalscorer in the sixtieth minute, when he opened the scoring. and Jimmy Greenhoff replaced Bobby Collins at Inside Left., seven minutes before the final whistle. For East Germany Frenzil was replaced by Lisiewicz, two minutes before the half time break and Vogel came on for Nachtigall eight minutes into the second half. The East Germany goals came from Vogel, who equalised after 67 minutes, while Korner bagged a brace with goals in the seventy-fourth and seventy-eighth minutes.
